Vegan Soul Kitchen GIVEAWAY!!

Photobucket

We’re coming up on the last week of the Vegan Month of Food and to celebrate, I have a very exciting surprise.

Bryant Terry, author of my new favorite cookbook ever, Vegan Soul Kitchen, has offered to donate one copy to Rainbow Soup for a giveaway!

This is the book that brought us my beloved turnip shallot soup and the wildly popular black-eyed pea fritters. And of course, the soundtrack which I made of the songs that accompany each recipe in the book — a fantastic mix which I would love for you to check out!

I am so thrilled to be able to offer this cookbook to one US or Canadian winner (and regret that I can’t afford to ship it elsewhere at this time). To enter the giveaway, please reply to this post with a song you’d like to share with me. Any song that’s feeding your soul right now! One entry per person. Winner will be chosen at random on Saturday 10/29, so you have until noon Eastern to enter.

I’m so excited for whoever wins this. I wish I could win it! I’m going to have to return my library copy soon.

  1. sweet giveaway CQ!
Why? is my soundtrack du jour
    this song in particular:

  2. Leonard Cohen – Famous Blue Raincoat.
    Sad but beautiful!

  3. Amanda Joseph says:

this song is so good to listen to with your eyes closed and listening to the words but feeling the music….
yeah its a Dead song but so worth it…

Scarlet Begonias…lead into fire on the mountain!!!

Very first song, ‘Sun Burns Out.’
I cannot express how my soul sings to this one.

It Just Comes Natural-George Straight. This song brings tears to my yes every time I hear it. It’s a little more religious than the music I listen to but I just love it. I also don’t listen to country all that often but there is something beautiful about this song that makes me feel all warm inside!

  6. momo says:

Oh man, my good spelling has worked against me this time. Should be George Strait. I can’t seem to find a video on YouTube that isn’t someone else covering his song 😦

  7. Suzanne says:

I have two songs, because one is a parody that doesn’t showcase the best parts of the artist. The Occupy movement puts me in a David Rovics sort of mood.

First up, I have his sharp parody, I’m a Better Anarchist Than You:

And my favorite protest song ever, A Kiss Behind the Barricades:

I have more, if you need uplifing (or depressing) lefty folk activist music! (In fact, my political views on Facebook are David Rovics lyrics.)

  8. I’ve been drooling over this book for ages!

I’m cooking up a storm in my kitchen tonight and listening to Jean Grae:

  9. celyn says:

I’d like to share the whole documentary of the Buena Vista Social Club!

I like thinking what meal I’d make to watch this documentary. I think mini-Cuban sandwiches with fried plaintains, and maybe a lime-dressed salad.

  10. Kim says:

I’m not really much of a music person, but a song that I’ve had stuck in my head lately is “Chop and Change” by the Black Keys. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Vegan Soul Kitchen and I think it sounds amazing. Thanks for having such a great giveaway!

On Saturday I baked Katie’s famous Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls (http://donteatoffthesidewalk.com/2007/11/08/veganmofo-i-hope-you-have-your-fat-pants-ready/) to everything by Death Cab for Cutie on shuffle. They turned out better than ever before. My BF and I managed to eat the whole batch in less than 24 hours.

I heard Blind Pilot’s “We Are The Tide” on NPR and it’s just been swimming in my head ever since…

They toured their first album by bicycle…thousands of miles, on bikes. How cool is that? 🙂

I’d like to try to enter in the hopes that you will allow a winner who may not currently be in the U.S. but still has an address there that you could send the book to 😉 I’ve had my eye on this one, and I especially want to make the Jamaican patties. Mmmmmm.

My swing dance teacher introduced me to “The Spinach Song” on a mix he gave us:

May not actually be about spinach, but it’s still awesome. Another song that’s actually great to swing to is “Leeds United,” by the one and only Amanda Palmer.

Sorry, it’s hard to choose just one.
    Thanks!

  14. Always. I want to fritter it up!

  15. when I’m down, this song often peps me up. ❤ Freddie Mercury 🙂

  16. Carrie says:

I’ve had this in my head for 3 days:

  17. Hmmm… I think that almost any Ryan Adams song is appropriate for the fall but, I really love this song of his. 🙂

  18. Mary Lang says:

How am I supposed to choose just one song?!
Um . . . ok. I just discovered this song and can’t stop listening to it!

  19. Eric says:

Tom Paxton – Looking for the Moon. Although really, anything of his is pretty amazing.

  20. Here’s a fun 90’s mash up that a friend of mine made. It’s got so many different famous 90’s songs, it just makes me smile! http://soundcloud.com/wick-it/nineties-ftw-wick-it-mashupp

  21. tanis says:

It’s raining and I’m in a Nick Cave kinda mood. This is Grinderman – When My Love Comes Down.

    • choirqueer says:

Hey, you won, but you didn’t leave me any contact info! If you get this reply, please get back to me ASAP so I can have the book sent to you. Otherwise I will have to redraw for a different winner so that someone can get it. 🙂

  22. Oscar says:

With the transition into November coming, I’ve decided it’s time to bust out the winter-themed music — and because I’m secretly a gooey romantic, I also associate winter with that kinda thing. Here’s a song that is, in my opinion, a lovely little ditty. Three years of work went into it and I think that labour of love shows!

I don’t know how to make it embed the video and I’m not gonna trifle with attempts, so I’ll just put the link here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcZUHSjgQ3E

  23. Today I’ve had Tori Amos in my head. Though it isn’t by any means new, Taxi Ride is what is popping into my head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W09AO38CP0o

Oh, how I would LOVE to win this book!

  24. This song is always on repeat. Go to 1:56 and you can see the (vegan!) singers beautiful eyes, one is brown and one is blue!

  25. Stephanie says:

I can’t stop playing this song, I hope you like it!

I love Vegan Soul Kitchen, so here’s one of my favourite rainy day songs, since it’s raining in Indy..again. It’s on my youtube playlist called grey skies mix. 🙂 This is actually one of my favourite songs of all time & is great to have in the background if you ever play Vampire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji7h8RZJre0

  28. boychucker says:

Wild Flag – Romance from Merge Records on Vimeo.

This is my favorite song of the moment. It’s great cooking and dishwashing music, as long as you don’t drop any knives/plates to do the handclaps.
